Children's Centre - Church Street Employment Drop-In Sessions

The Job Centre in partnership with Sure Start Children's Centres offer parents with young children practical advice on work or training whilst caring for your child.

The drop-in sessions occur at a number of convenient locations in your area. You don't need to book an appointment. There are four consecutive weeks of sessions scheduled.  All sessions start on the first Monday of the month throughout the year. Telephone for a schedule.

Connexions

The Stowe Centre, 258 Harrow Road, London, W2 1ES

Connexions is a service for 13-19 years olds, living in England and wanting advice on getting to where they want to be in life. It also provides support up to the age of 25 years old for young people who have learning and/or physical disabilities.

To find out where your local service is call the number above or, if online, click on ‘local service' on the Connexions website. Connexions Direct is the counselling service of Connexions and provides information and advice to young people.

DreamArts at The Cockpit Theatre

DreamArts provide the opportunity to learn singing, drama and dancing skills every Sunday. It is a low cost working theatre where a showcase is held every term of the talent and skills learnt. Other programmes that DreamArts run include ‘Young People First', a Mobile Arts Programme and Music.

The Employment Drop-In Service at the Portman Early Childhood Centre supports lone parents who want to get back to work as well as providing information about employment and training opportunities within the local area and borough.  You do not need an appointment but you should phone the Centre to see when the advisor is available.

Learn Direct Training Centre

Exchange Group offers learning facilities in public libraries covering a range of services. If you want to improve your computer skills, IT skills or even improve your maths and English, these direct training courses may have something for you.  You will need to be assessed to see what level your skills currently are and a training plan will then be devised for you. If you are on benefits the course may be free or subsidised. For those in employment, commercial courses are also available. You will need to book an appointment for an assessment.

Metropole Learning

Offering unemployed adults between the ages of 18 and 65 ESOL and Literacy along with Numeracy, and IT.  Additionally, Job Search is offered which includes professtional ‘one to one’ assistance with creating or developing CVs, telephone and interview techniques, help with covering letters, advice and guidance.  All learners will also have access to a Learning Support Tutor if they feel they have learning difficulties.

Nova New Opportunities

Nova runs numeracy and literacy workshops, ESOL classes, CLAIT accredited computer skills courses (level 1) and offers advice and help into work. Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES)

Westminster Adult Education Service provides a variety of courses throughout the borough. Details of its courses can be found online as well as in the course prospectus. Classes include ESOL basic and introductory English language skills, computer and other vocational courses for beginners. 

Westminster Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship will allow you to work in paid employment and learn at the same time. If you become an apprentice you can gain NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications free of charge. The apprenticeship scheme is open to anyone aged 16-24 years old and apprenticeships offered include, Business Administration, Construction, Painting and Decorating, and Customer Services. 


North Westminster Drug and Alcohol Service (NWDAS)

The North Westminster Drug and Alcohol Service (NWDAS) is a local community project that offers a free and confidential service to residents of Westminster and their families who are affected by drug and alcohol problems.  We provide a range of support services from our base at 474 Harrow Road, including drop in and advice, counseling, group therapy, needle exchange and harm reduction services, substitute prescribing, support for families and carers, legal advice, criminal justice engagement, support with employment, training and education, access to mutual aid groups, alternative therapies, support with accessing to residential detox and rehab services and much more. We also offer Alcohol Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) groups at various times (call us for details).

NWDAS is delivered by Westminster Drug Project (WDP) in partnership with CNWL and F66

Westminster Enterprise Centre

The Westminster Enterprise Centre, based on Chippenham Road (St. Peters House) provides FREE community based business support and coaching for anyone living in North Westminster.

People who wish to set up as self-employed or a micro-business can access resources and information by coming to the Centre. It mainly provides support on a one-to-one basis and which is confidential and free. The Enterprise Centre also works with local, existing businesses to assist in business growth and development.

The Centre also organises FREE regular training seminars.

Westminster on the Web

We live in a 24 hour society with information available at the touch of a keystroke.  Westminster City Council contributes to the information highway with its own website. You can find out anything about your borough from the issues that your local councillors support to the City's regeneration plans. This is a great way to keep up to date with change.

Westminster Works

You may have been out of work for a while or want to get back into work after you have been at home. Westminster Works can help you find a good job and the training you need to get it - for free.

We have a team of specialists who know about local jobs and what employers are looking for. You meet your own personal advisor who will remain your special link person for as long as you remain on the programme. If you need more training, your advisor will help find a work placement or the right place for you to study. If you are ready to go to work straight away, they will look for suitable vacancies and help with tips for your application form and practice for the interview.

This is not just a one off service. The advisor will help you every step of the way, staying in contact by phone and meeting you regularly. If you genuinely want a job, or to improve your job prospects, they will do their utmost to make sure you achieve your goals.

Youth Boost@Renaissance Skills Centre

Sports,  art and group activities on Fridays. Support may be available for  travel and childcare expenses.
